February 18th Meeting

Eagle Flats Project Launch

We shared feasibility research and preliminary plans for the Eagle Flats project at a Neighborhood Open House at Pullman’s on February 18, 2010.  The proposed mixed-use residential and commercial development was launched and the development process was explained.  Over 50 enthusiastic community leaders, neighbors and Fox River advocates attended to learn about the impact of the development on our community.   Developers presented a general vision for the area, describing potential future amenities, including:  a visitor center, boating and kayak facilities, restaurants, trails and other riverfront attractions.  Future public input workshops were announced to seek feedback from the neighborhood and community.

A Unique Sense of Place

Four main attributes help define a GREAT place, according to Project for Public Spaces:

  • Easily accessible

  • Provides recreational &
    social activities

  • Creates a comfortable,
    positive image

  • Sociable place where people like to gather

In addition to being accessible, successful placemaking connects people with each other. A major emphasis of this development project is to create walkable and transit links to neighboring destinations, including Downtown Appleton. Several public input sessions will be held to gather feedback about what types of new places would enhance the area.
